| Situated
within 120กใ53' to 121กใ17' east longitude and 305กใ9' to 31กใ16' north
latitude, Qingpu District lies in the west suburbs of Shanghai,
lower reaches of Taihu Lake and upper reaches of Huangpu River. It
adjoins Minhang District in the east, borders on Songjiang District,
Jinshan District and Jiashan County of Zhejiang Province in the
south, joins the two cities of Wujiang and Kunshan of Jiangsu
Province in the west, and connects with Jiading District in the
north. It shapes like a flying butterfly with broad wing areas in
the east and west but narrow area in the center. It has smooth
terrain and higher groundwater level. With Qingpu Town as its
center, it has crisscrossed rivers and streams in the east part and
grouped lakes and pounds in the west part, thus providing natural
advantages in inland navigation which allows cargo ships of 50 to
300 tons pass easily. So it forms the key water transportation
passages for Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai. As to land
transportation it has state-owned highway No. 318 running through
the whole district from east to west, Hu-Ning expressway in the
north, Hu-Hang expressway in the south, the state-owned Tong-San
highway running through the east part from northeast to southwest,
and Hu-Qing-Ping expressway running parallel to No. 318 highway.
They provide such a swift land transportation that Qingpu has become
the west portal of Shanghai leading to Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui
provinces. |
