With smooth terrain and crisscrossed rivers the topography of the district features the boggy plain of ancient Taihu Lake Basin of Changjiang River Delta. The height of the ground elevation lies 2.8 to 4.8 meters above sea level and it goes lower in the central and south areas but higher in the north part along the banks of Wusong River and the west part of Dingshanhu Lake area. Lakes and marshes cover the southwest part of Maohe River area.
