Situated
in Changjiang River Delta, Qingpu District has a subtropical climate
with maritime monsoons. Southeast wind is the prevailing wind of the
year. The climate is mild with sufficient sunshine and enough rains
and a clear division of four seasons. 22.1 % of the total area of
Qingpu is water area with Dingshanhu Lake in the northwest part
which is the only and the biggest fresh water lake of Shanghai. The
environmental quality of Qingpu District is as
follows: Main indexes of the water quality of
upper reaches of Huangpu River are maintained basically within Grade
2 to Grade 3, those of the key river courses are maintained within
Grade 3 to Grade 4. The air quality of the district meets the
indexes of Grade 1 in the whole district and Grade 2 in the central
town. Water Environment
Control: The district spent RMB 86.2045 million yuan in
2003 for the dredging of the waterways of the district. The 12 towns
dredged 226 waterways of 169.33 kilometers in length under their
administration with an amount of 2.45 million cubic meters of mud
dredged. And they also dredged two district administrated river
courses of Baihenggang harbor and Shangdahe
River. Air Environment
Control: In 2003 the district accomplished the replacement
of coal-burning boilers of 7 manufactories with clean energy, and
also fulfilled the target of "No coal-burning area" in Qingpu Town,
"Air pollution standard attained area" in Zhujiajiao Town and
Liantang Town, and finished the basic work of re-checking of "Noise
standard attained area" in the above three
towns. Afforestation
Building: The building of a large scale green land of 97 mu
in area has been finished on Songze Square of Qingpu New Town. With
a cost of RMB 110 million yuan the building of a greenery belt of
central ecological bridge in Zhujiajiao Town and 1,200 mu in area of
trees encircling the town are also completed. Other completed green
areas are Taipuhe River ecological forest of 5,404 mu in area in
Liantang Town, the ecological forest of 3,000 mu in area around
Dingshanhu Lake, and a water source conservation forest of 37
kilometers in length along both sides of Dazhenggang Harbor and
Lanlugang Harbor, a newly built economic forest of 4,800 mu in area,
together with the assigned greenery belt along Hu-Qing-Ping
Expressway, the 33,000 square meters of greenery at Nanmen entrance
of the Expressway. The greenery belts along outer Qing-Song highway,
along Caoyu Road, and landscape greenery of Xiayanghu Lake are still
under vigorous construction.
