The
physical culture of the district developed into a new phase in 2003.
Athletes sent by the district won 8 gold medals in the nationwide
top-level individual competitions (including Olympic events),
keeping the leading position among the suburb districts. The
district fostered 13 graded judges in the whole year,  of which 8 are second-grade
judges, 4 first-grade judges and 1 state-grade
judge.
The district has achieved remarkable
results in nationwide gymnastics. Mass sports activities and various
competitions have been held continuously. There were Welcoming
Spring Long-Distance Race in the first half of 2003, participated by
thousands of people, "12 Town Farmers' Basketball Invitational
Tournament", "Zhaotun Cup" Gateball Invitational Tournament, Serial
Competitions of Nationwide Family Gymnastics, "Double-Happiness Cup"
Ping Pang Ball Competition with thousand tables and ten thousand
participants, etc. All these activities greatly promoted the
development of mass sport activities of the district, enriched the
spiritual life of the masses and improved the peoples' health.
