Songze
culture started about 5,800 - 4,900 years ago during the integrating stage from
matriarchal society to patriarchal society in Neolithic Period. It
is so named because it was first discovered in Songze Village of
Qingpu District, Shanghai. It inherited Majiabang culture and
succeeded by Liangzhu culture, forming an important cultural
stage at Taihu Lake Basin of the lower reaches of Changjiang River.
4 locations of Songze cultural relics (Songze relics, Fuquanshan
relics, Jinshan Tomb relics, Shiqianchun village relics) have been
discovered in Qingpu District with more than 800 items of unearthed
artifacts. An ancient inhabited village was
discovered inside the Songze cultural layer at Fuquanshan relics
from which it was deduced that over 5,000 years
ago the area near Shanghai was at the integrating stage from
matriarchal society towards patriarchal
society.
