A large number of crocks and scraps of broken porcelain are
discovered in the farmland and the riverside 150 meters from the
Yingxiang Bridge in Jinze Ancient Town, where the Jinze River and
Baimi Port meet. According to spot observation and materials
including the ¡°Jinze Records¡±, the place is the ancient ¡°Baizhuli¡±
Village in the Tang and North Song Dynasties (more than 1,000 years
ago).
According to historical records, the original name of Jinze was
¡°Baizhuli¡±, which was at Baimi Port. It was famous for its rice,
cotton and ramie. The ¡°Jinze Records¡± says that in AD960, ¡°local
farmers found gold like stones¡±. Hence, the village was renamed
¡°Jinze¡±. At the end of the Song Dynasty and the beginning of the
Yuan Dynasty, bridges and temples were constructed in the northern
part of the town. Buddhism and commerce flourished together. The
village moved gradually to the north, forming the present Jinze
Town. Folk records state, ¡°Instead of beginning in the Song and Yuan
Dynasties, Jinze Town emerged in the Song Dynasty and flourished in
the Yuan Dynasty.¡±
The discovery of the remains of old ¡°Baizhuli¡± Village provides
significant reference for study and research on the economic and
cultural development of the ancient town. It¡¯s also meaningful for
the historical evolution of the 1,000-year village and the
exploration of tourism and cultural
resources.
