| The Former Residence of
Chen Yun, a national model base for patriotism education, also a
national AAAA-class tourism spot and the revolutionary and
historical museum of Qingpu, has ushered in its first tourism peak
in 2008 since its offer of free admission to the public on March 10.
Statistics showed that the number of visitors jumped to over 15,000
in March alone, 240% more over the same period last year.
Since the offer of free admission, the museum has witnessed a
visible rise in the number of visitors as well as a big change in
the composition of visitors with individuals now outnumbering
tourist groups. Due to the inconvenience of being immobile in the
suburban area, the museum attracts individual visitors mainly in the
vicinity of Qingpu, or Songjiang and Jinshan districts etc. The
townspeople of Chenyun, including the migrant workers, are among
those most benefited by the offer of free admission. On sunny days,
some old people, going alone or in groups, or with their spouse,
come all the way from downtown Shanghai for a 4-hour ride of 3 buses
to the museum for a visit.
The visitors say that the offer of free admission, the bliss for
the public, helps the people better understand the history and
improve the cultural quality of the whole nation. Several
70-years-odd visitors mentioned that we should never forget the
efforts made by the former revolutionary martyrs, and that the young
generations should, in particular, remember the history for a bright
future.
