The People's Government of
Qingpu District and China Telecom Group Shanghai Co., Ltd. (China
Telecom) have recently signed the"Frame Agreement on Constructive
Cooperation of Joint Promotion for Construction of Wireless City in
Qingpu District". The cooperation of the two parties will not only
enhance the District's comprehensive competitiveness, but also
further promote its information construction and all-round national
economic and social development during the "11th Five-Year Plan"
period.
It is learnt that China Telecom will construct the District into
a "wireless city" in three phases. And the District's infrastructure
construction of the "wireless city", covering all key regions, will
be accomplished in three years and be applied to social public
service and management, e-government and enterprise informatization.
Thus, the project will provide mature wireless application service
and powerful communication guarantee for the 2010 Shanghai Expo.
Wireless technology will be initially applied to some social public
hotspots, business tourism centers and government service sites in
2008. On the basis of the Phase 1, the construction will be expanded
upon optimization of network and application. From 2009 to 2010, the
Phase 2 and Phase 3 will expand wireless coverage in other major
areas, such as trunk roads in the town proper, bus bays, rest areas
for tourism scenic spots, suburb modern service centers in
Zhaoxiang, New Hongqiao Business Region in Xujing. All these
hotspots shall be connected to form a large-scale one, to realize
effective wireless coverage of the whole District and provide
all-round wireless broadband service for the World Expo.
At that time, through "wireless city" network, citizens can enjoy
the convenience of the information age by timely accessing to free
public information issued by the government. In the near future, the
citizens can go surfing wirelessly through the broadband at any time
and any place, such as in the entertainment places, hotels and
restaurants, tourism scenic spots, park greenbelt, shopping malls,
transportation hubs, conference centers, and service windows. Just
as the popularization of laptops liberates people from wires, the
construction of the "wireless city" frees people from
cables.
