| The European Union (EU)
REACH Regulation (Regulation concerning the Registration,
Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) has come
into force and carried out pre-registration since June 1, 2008. The
pre-registration will not end until December 1, 2008. Chemicals and
downstream products including textiles, stationery, toys and
furniture, if failing to conduct pre-registration prior to the
appointed time, will not be admitted into the EU market. Enterprises
still can, upon their pre-registration, continue doing import and
export trades with EU. Meanwhile, enterprises will obtain different
transmission period of registration varying from 3 years, 6 years or
11 years in line with their product attributes and export volumes.
The official registration time for enterprises will kick off as of
January 1, 2009.
It is learnt that the EU is Qingpu's traditional export market.
Exports to the EU reached $804 million in 2007, amounting for 14.3%
of Qingpu's foreign trade volume. Enterprises exporting to Europe in
Qingpu district, upon completing registration, will receive a "pass"
allowing them to enter into EU market in the future.
