From May 21 to 22, the 2nd "Shanghai Qingpu International Forum" for tourism cooperation in Yangtze River Delta was held in the Sun Island Resort. Experts in various fields had an in-depth discussion on the plan of regional cooperation on Expo tourism as well as economy cooperation in the region, with an aim to find a forward-looking and all-round strategy for work and development by seeking breakthroughs and taking initiatives.
Gao Kang, District Governor and Deputy Secretary of Qingpu Party Committee of the CPC, announced the opening of the 2009 forum with the theme of “Sharing the Opportunity of World Expo for Development”. Zhang Wangyao, District Vice-governor and Standing Member of the Qingpu District Party Committee, unveiled the forum with a warm welcome speech.
Director Shao Qiwei of the China National Tourism Administration sent a congratulatory letter. Industry leaders, including Ms. Xu Fan, the expert of World Tourism Organization, Ms. Chang Hong, chief representative of Asia Pacific Tourism Association in China, Mr. Li Kefu, Executive Deputy Chairman of International Leisure Industry Association and Ms. Zhu Chengrong of Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration, delivered brilliant speeches expressing common expectations of seizing opportunities brought by the Expo for future cooperation on tourism in the delta area.
It is learned that the Expo 2010 Shanghai China is an unprecedented opportunity for China’s tourist industry, especially for that in the delta region. How to use the opportunity to develop the tourism economy in the region has been a hot topic by tourism experts in recent years. The forum discussed on how to use the good opportunity of the Expo to maximize the profit from the regional tourism and drive the economy development of the tourism with joint efforts by all parties. In addition to many national key travelling destinations, all cooperation parties in the region have their unique tourism resources. In this land full of vitality, many tourism recourses, including urban, historical, garden and marine cultures, integrate with each other and complement each other. All this has laid an advantageous foundation for development of various tourism products as well as regional tourism cooperation. The forum discussed mainly on how Qingpu, a district on the west of Shanghai and at the center of the delta region, can promote the regional tourism to a new level and boost the tourism economy in the surrounding areas by seizing the opportunity.
Mr. Yi Zhongtian, the famous scholar and author of best seller, and Ms. Hong Huang, President of China Interactive Media Group and famous publisher, the two well-known cultural celebrities invited by the forum as the honored guests to deliver speeches, expressed their thoughts on tourism from two aspects, namely, win-win cooperation and practical challenges. Also at the forum were Mr. Wei Xiaoan, Director of Scientific Committee of China Tourism Academy, Mr. Jia Yunfeng, CEO of D & J Global Communication Group Limited and expert of innovation and promotion of Chinese tourism, and Mr. Per Hote, President of Scandinavian Tourist Board and Director of Asian tourism of Innovation Norway, who brain-stormed on innovative tourism from their own professional perspectives.
The sponsor of the District Tourism Bureau Congress signed at the forum the memorandum of cooperation on developing CYTS Expo tourist itineraries, with members of the tourism promotion group for the Expo and CYTS Tours Holding Co., Ltd. (CYTS), the agreement on cooperation of global online promotion of Qingpu tourism with Google Inc. (China), the strategic cooperation agreement with “Leisure”, a famous Chinese magazine eyeing on the leisure industry, and reached the strategic cooperation intent with Innovation Norway on joint development of eco-tourism.
The forum was hosted by Shanghai Qingpu District Tourism Bureau and under the auspices of D & J Global Communication Group Limited, with supports from World Tourism Organization, Asia Pacific Tourism Association, China National Tourism Administration, Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration and Shanghai Qingpu District People’s Government. Attending the forum were officials and experts from various tourism bureaus of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and other areas in the Yangtze River Delta. Such TV and media as Sina (www.sina.com.), CCTV and China Travel & Economic Channel provided all-round support for the forum. Forty news media organizations all over the country went to the spot. Such a great-scale forum has never appeared in the delta region or even in the national tourism industry.
