  • High-speed Tests Conducted for 1st Trains on Rail Transit Line 17
  • After more than three years of unremitting efforts made by the rail transit builders, the rail transit Line 17 in Qingpu District ushered in its historic moment, as recently the trains have been officially put on the tracks for tests. The rail transit has been closer to us.

    In order to ensure safety, before transporting the passengers, the trains must be tested for at least 2,500 kilometers so as to guarantee the stable and liable performance of all the systems on the trains. With the subway trains running back and forth at low, intermediate and high speeds, the contact rail power state will be tested so as to find the potential engineering defects in the power supply system, make rectification and ensure the normal running after the official operation of the trains.

    In order to meet the demand for speedy running in the suburbs, the designed highest speed of the trains on Line 17 is 100 kilometers per hour and 6 carriages in a train have been arranged considering the operation with large passenger flows. Unlike most of the trains on the existing rail transit lines in Shanghai, in the future the trains on Line 17 will adopt the type of third rail current, which means that the third-rail power supply system will be used on the trains. Without the overhead line system, the conductor rail installed beside the train rail and directly transmitting power to the train will be adopted. After installation the third rail will be formed to enhance the safety of power supply.

    According to the sources, the trains on Line 17 will undergo the signal motor car debugging in 2 and a half months, during which period each train will run on the tracks for repeated tests as the final preparation for the official operation at the end of the year.
