Recently, a ceremony was held to launch the construction of the citizens’ satisfactory district for food safety at Xijiao International Agricultural Products Trade Center. Qingpu will take the opportunity to improve the food safety to a new level.
Attending the ceremony were Zhang Zhunmin, deputy director of the municipal food and drug administration, Tao Xiafang, vice chairperson of the standing committee of District People’s Congress, Gu Jun, deputy district governor and director of the district commission of food and drug safety, and Dong Yongyuan, vice chairman of the district CPPCC committee.
Protection of food safety is what the people are concerned about and the development requires. According to the sources, Qingpu will seize the opportunity to implement the “Regulation of Shanghai Municipality on Food Safety”, construct the citizens’ satisfactory urban district for food safety, continue to carry out the current efforts in comprehensive improvement of ecology and environment, intensify the administration and control of the major industries and fields related to food safety, continue to crack down on unlicensed catering businesses and illegal food processing sites, squeeze the space for production and operation of the illegal food, energetically solve the prominent problems and weak points in food safety, and consolidate the firewall for food safety. In addition, we will focus on the serious problems in food safety that feature large consumption by the masses, wide coverage of the affected and close attention, comprehensively advance the construction of “trustworthy restaurants”, “trustworthy canteens”, “honest supermarkets” and “standardized vegetable markets”, elevate the overall level of food safety in the district, and improve the citizens’ satisfaction and sense of gain.
It is learnt that in the spot checks for food in Qingpu District in 2016 the pass rate was 96.4%, with 2,021 food administrative cases dealt with and a total of RMB4.8762 million fined. A total of 11 cases of food safety crimes were investigated and unearthed, up by 120% year on year, with 18 suspects arrested. The crackdown on food violations has been further intensified.
