A package of new regulations and policies will take effect across Shanghai in this September. Shanghai will adopt national textbooks including sixth-grade Chinese textbook in the new semester. Shanghai also advanced the reform on primary and middle school PE classes and was the first to subsidize burials during off seasons.

Since the autumn semester, Chinese and morality and law courses of Shanghai junior middle school’s preparatory grade (sixth grade) and history course of junior grade one (seventh grade) will adopt the national textbooks.
Shanghai advanced reform on primary and middle school PE classes by ensuring four PE classes plus two physical activity classes every week for primary school and four PE classes plus one physical activity class for junior middle school.
The Shanghai Municipal Education Commission published the “Shanghai Instructions (Pilot) on Reform of Raising Interest in Primary School PE Course and Diversifying Junior Middle School PE Course” and will implement it since September 1. Pilot schools shall give overall consideration in advancing the policy, ensuring four PE classes plus two physical activity classes every week for primary school and four PE classes plus one physical activity class for junior middle school, orient to teaching style of smaller classes and adopt diversified and individualized teaching methods.
Shanghai carried out all-round inter-provincial examination on small-size automobiles, trucks and middle-sized buses.
The General Office of the Ministry of Public Security recently issued the “Measures on Further Deepening Reform on Streamlining Administration, Delegating Power, Strengthening Regulation and Optimizing Service and Facilitating Traffic Control Service by Public Security and Traffic Control Departments”, and released twenty new measures of reform on “Streamlining Administration, Delegating Power, Strengthening Regulation and Optimizing Service” concerning traffic regulation. Since September 1, 2018, Shanghai will carry out all-round inter-provincial examination on small-size automobiles, trucks and middle-sized buses, unifying vehicle examination across China. Applicants can have their vehicles examined out of the registered place and obtain a qualification label upon application without handling procedures for entrusted examination.
Shanghai became the first to subsidize burials during off seasons with a maximum sum of RMB1,000 per grave.
Since September 1st, Shanghai funeral and burial administrations will launch a new policy of subsidizing burials during off seasons. If relatives or other operators of a deceased resident with Shanghai household register choose to carry out burial avoiding peak periods such as Tomb-sweeping Day and Winter Solstice Festival at a newly-purchased common grave or site in a cemetery affiliated to Shanghai municipal funeral and burial service center during the applicable period, they will enjoy a reduction of RMB1,000 per grave. However, it won’t apply to pro-bono funeral and cremains deposit service.
