Situated within 120o 53' to 121o 17' east longitude and 30o 59' to 31o 16' north latitude, Qingpu District lies in the west suburbs of Shanghai, lower reaches of Taihu Lake and upper reaches of Huangpu River. It adjoins Minhang District in the east, borders on Songjiang District, Jinshan District and Jiashan County of Zhejiang Province in the south, joins the two cities of Wujiang and Kunshan of Jiangsu Province in the west, and connects with Jiading District in the north.
Situated in Changjiang River Delta, Qingpu District has a subtropical climate with maritime monsoons. Southeast wind is the prevailing wind of the year. The climate is mild with sufficient sunshine and enough rains and a clear division of four seasons.
Songze culture started about 5,800 - 4,900 years ago during the integrating stage from matriarchal society to patriarchal society in Neolithic Period. It is so named because it was first discovered in Songze Village of Qingpu District, Shanghai. It inherited Majiabang culture and succeeded by Liangzhu culture, forming an important cultural stage at Taihu Lake Basin of the lower reaches of Changjiang River.
Present Status ---- The district has built a certain amount of fundamental facilities for the development of modern information technology in the past few years and they have played an all overall role in providing a relatively perfect hubbed network for the promotion of an electronic governmental administration, electronic commerce, electronic information industry, and the informatization of enterprises and town & community, public service of social information, etc.
Qingpu District is continuously perfecting its multi-leveled social insurance system. The district is conscientiously implementing and has made active propaganda for the "Town Insurance" by holding training courses on insurance business with a result that 1,881 individuals from the first batch of 342 enterprises have applied for the "Town Insurance".
Rural social endowment insurance has been promoted steadily with a result that 122,000 individuals applied and paid for it in the whole district of the year and the application rate reached 91.6 %.
