Qingpu District, located in the western suburb of Shanghai and next to Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces, is convenient in communications and developed in water transport. In the area there is the largest lake in Shanghai - Dianshanhu Lake, the source of Shanghai's mother river - the Huangpu River. Around the lake are a number of tourist scenic areas, all complete in tourist facilities. Among the tourist areas is the famous waterside town Zhujiajiao.

Dianshanhu Lake: Dianshan Lake scenic area, located in Qingpu District, in the western suburb of Shanghai, was named after the Dianshan Hill in the east of the lake. The lake has a total area of 62 sq.km, twelve times that of the West Lake in Hangzhou. It is the largest fresh water lake in Shanghai. The Dianshanhu Lake scenic area was developed in the '80s of the last century. Through many years of construction and expansion, it has become the largest tourist area in Shanghai.

 
 
One-day tour A of Qingpu, Shanghai
Leave downtown Shanghai by bus at 7:30 am and arrive at Shanghai Grand View Garden at 9:30 am. Visit the Happy Red Court, Bamboo Lodge, Grand View Hall and Rice Village. After lunch, drive to Zhujiajiao and visit Ma Family Garden (Kezhi Garden), Bridge of Setting Fish Free, Ming-Qing Dynasty Street and the Grand North Street. Return to downtown Shanghai at 16:00.

TRANSPORTATION DIRECTORY
Qingpu District is 40 km away from downtown Shanghai. The 318 State Highway (Shanghai to Xizang) and Hu-Qing-Ping Highway (Qingpu in Shanghai to Pingwang in Jiangsu) run through the district from east to west. Transportation in its surrounding areas is also well developed. In its south is the 99-km Shanghai-Hangzhou Freeway and in its north is the 270-km Shanghai-Nanjing Freeway

World Dragon Boat Championship: Dragon boat race is a time-honored folk water art festivity. It is a traditional folk sport, originated from the commemoration of the patriotic poet Qu Yuan. The twin-year dragon boat championship has been held 4 times. Its scale has been growing. The 5th championship will be held in 2004 in Qingpu. There will be teams from over a dozen countries and regions in the world. It is a remarkable event that will demonstrate the world level, Shanghai's specialty and Qingpu water country life-style.
