 World Dragon Boat
Championship: Dragon boat race is a
time-honored folk water art festivity. It is a
traditional folk sport, originated from the
commemoration of the patriotic poet Qu Yuan. The
twin-year dragon boat championship has been held 4
times. Its scale has been growing. The 5th championship
will be held in 2004 in Qingpu. There will be teams from
over a dozen countries and regions in the world. It is a
remarkable event that will demonstrate the world level,
Shanghai¡¯s specialty and Qingpu water country
life-style.

 Ancient Town
Zhujiajiao Tourism Festival: It is a part of
Shanghai Tourism Festival that demonstrates the unique
life-style of the people in the water country. It
consists of a float parade, boat speeding, floating
lanterns, an ensemble of traditional Chinese stringed
and woodwind instruments, a dragon dance, walking on
stilts, all rich in local life-style and festival
atmosphere. Tourists may also choose to participate in
such activities as acting as a postman of the Qing
Dynasty Post Office, having a taste of the farmer¡¯s food
to experience the delight of the festivity in an ancient
town.

Food Culture Festival: In exploring the
traditional folk food resources, enriching the catering
service and emphasizing on ¡°Food as the heaven of
people¡± to demonstrate to domestic and foreign tourists
Qingpu¡¯s time-honored folk food culture, famous chefs of
different food styles demonstrate on the spot a
competition of the culinary art. At the exhibition of
exquisite carving skill and famous traditional
delicacies tourists can satisfy their palate while
appreciating the beautiful landscape of the ancient
town.

Shanghai Red Mansion Art Festival:
Aiming at ¡°Carrying forward the national culture and
propagating the Red Mansion art¡± Shanghai Red Mansion
Festival is part of Shanghai Tourism Festival. Shanghai
Grand View Garden, in making use of the natural
resources and humanistic sights in the area, has
explored the conception of the Red Mansion, boldly
created and meticulously designed, every year, new
performances, exhibitions and entertainments.
Performances are designed on the themes of the original
¡°Dream of the Red Mansions¡± performed in Yue opera;
exhibitions are arranged with the display of calligraphy
and painting works of famous artists, precious pieces of
furniture and life-style of rice growing countryside and
water country; entertainments are ¡°Tasting tea while
enjoying music¡± in Grand View Hall, the scene of ¡°Baoyu
wailing in Daiyu¡¯s mourning hall¡±, etc.
